What is an Avari?
It happens every time. “Oh, you’re writing a fantasy book! Are there, like, elves and dwarves in it?”
“Well, I do have a bunch of fantasy races, but not the standard ones. My main character is an Avari.”
“What’s an Avari?”
And, to be fair, it is a valid question. Since I made Avari up, and all that. You can’t Google “Avari” and get a six-page Wikipedia entry detailing every little bit of known lore about them… because that lore doesn’t exist yet.
So — What is an Avari?
Avari are one of the many races of Gaia, appearing almost seven thousand years ago, making them a younger race than Humans. They have a variety of different cultures and ethnicities.
Many of them worship the Three, but depending on where they are located or what their profession is may worship any of the other gods.
Physical Description
Avari are known for their brightly colored hair and eyes, which can be any shade of the rainbow. Their hair cannot be dyed; dye refuses to bond with the strands, and as a result the color just washes away.
Avari also have large pointed ears, which move in sync with their emotional state – raising when they are happy, or lowering when upset.
Average height spans from 5’ to 6’, and average lifespan is 90 years.
Other Attributes
Avari tend to be more attuned to the magic of the world, resulting in (on average) greater magical ability and a greater chance of inherent abilities.
Location
Most Avari can be found on the continent of Espon, but pockets can be found in other places. They are predominantly urban, but can be found in all sorts of places.
