Festival of Night Recipes

It’s SPOOKY TIME!!!! :D

Halloween is tomorrow! My favorite holiday!

To celebrate, I thought I’d share two recipes that are mentioned in Lost Blades for the Festival of Night (essentially, Romanii’s Halloween). You can celebrate Halloween the same way as Jamirh and Jeri celebrate the Festival of Night!

Pumpkin-Shaped Pumpkin Breads

INGREDIENTS

Bread:

  • 4 large eggs

  • 2 cups pumpkin puree

  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 1/3 cup sugar

  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar

  • 4 teaspoons vanilla

  • 4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • 1 1/3 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons milk

Special Equipment:

  • You will need molds shaped like pumpkins. I used 3” silicone treat molds made by Celebrate It. If you can’t find molds, you can use mini loaf pans, or even one large loaf pan, and bake for closer to an hour.

DIRECTIONS

Bread:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray the molds with baking spray and place on a sheet pan.

  2. Crack eggs into a large bowl, and whisk to break the yolks.

  3. Add pumpkin puree and whisk until smooth.

  4. Add the white and light brown sugars and vanilla. Whisk until smooth.

  5. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour until well combined.

  6. Add flour mixture to pumpkin mixture and stir until just combined and there are no large lumps.

  7. Add batter to prepared molds, being careful to fill only about 4/5 full. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Place sheet pan on wire rack. Cool completely before removing from molds.

Icing:

  1. Combine powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk in a small bowl and mix until smooth.

Assemble and Finish:

  1. Cut off any extra cake to ensure pumpkin halves are flat on top.

  2. Add about a half tablespoon of icing to the flat top of a pumpkin half, and use it to glue on the top.

  3. To finish, you can drizzle more icing on top or sprinkle some powdered sugar.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup strong hot coffee

  • 1 cup milk of your choice

  • 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree

  • 2—3 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

  • A pinch of fine sea salt

Optional:

  • Whipped Cream

  • Ground Cinnamon

  • Cinnamon stick

Special Equipment:

  • A milk frother, to get that wonderful milk foam!

DIRECTIONS

  1. Make the coffee and have it ready!

  2. Combine pumpkin puree, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, salt, and vanilla in a small bowl or measuring cup. Mix until smooth.

  3. In a small saucepan, heat the milk until hot, but not boiling.

  4. Add half of the hot milk to the pumpkin mixture and whisk until smooth.

  5. Add the hot coffee to the pumpkin and milk mixture, and whisk again. Pour into cup of your choice.

  6. Froth the remaining hot milk until very foamy. Add to cup, making sure the foam is on top.

  7. If desired, top with whipped cream and/or cinnamon, and garnish with a cinnamon stick!

And that’s it for this week! If you’d like some light spooky reading, check out the What is the Warcross Wall? blog post from two weeks ago, but other wise have a great Halloween!!!
