Ream
On this, the fifth Monday of a month, it is time for a mini blog post! And the thing I’d like to talk about?
Ream.
Some of you may have heard me mention Ream before, or at least seen me post about it somewhere. You very likely have no idea what it is — it’s a pretty new platform, launching publicly in May of 2023. Basically, it’s like Patreon, but specifically for authors and readers — it has features that allow you read right in the app, and even leave comments that other readers and the author can respond to! It’s a community space, bringing fans of an author together over the thing they love — the books and world of that author. And it allows readers to support the authors they love far more directly than many other platforms.
Having a Ream allows me to basically spoil readers with extra content — here are some of the things I’m offering:
Advanced access to novels before they are published on retailers
Art and art works-in-progress
Members’ names in the acknowledgements of the books
Access to my catalog of books
Sneak peeks of covers and release news
Physical rewards like book boxes and merch
And more!
You don’t even need to subscribe for some of the benefits; following an author is free. There’s some concept art, weekly updates, and specially formatted versions of some of my primary source document blog posts available to followers! Followers can also read Lavender, one of the short stories in Colors of Magic, in advance of its publication next month. (And if you are coming to this page after May of 2024, you can still follow me and read that short story for free :) )
But… isn’t your extra content on Campfire?
Campfire and Ream are not mutually exclusive, and the way I am using each of them is different. For Campfire, what you get is a one-time purchase of bonus content that relates to a specific book. On Ream, the bonus content is more general stuff — like the concept art I drew over 10 years ago when first coming up with the series concept, or the primary source documents that explore more about the world. Ream will also look forward — sneak peeks and advanced access to books before they are anywhere else. And of course, there’s the physical rewards, like book boxes and merch packs that I can’t do through Campfire. Both Campfire and Ream will have different exclusive content, as well.
But in the end, both are just different ways to support me, and if you consider either of them you have my undying thanks <3
