Q2 Update
Here we are. April 1st. The first day of the second quarter of 2024. A Monday.
Can I just say how exciting it is to me that the first day of three of the quarters this year are on Mondays? I know, I know; weird things excite me.
ANYWAY.
The first quarter was a BIG quarter for me! I feel like I might say that every time I do one of these, but honestly, keep reading — you’ll see what I mean! So let’s begin :D
Broken Blades Launched!
Broken Blades launched on January 12. That means I have TWO books published! TWO! How crazy is that? It’s hard to believe sometimes that I have TWO books available for people to read and connect with, but it’s also incredibly exciting. Thank you to everyone for your support; I couldn’t do it without all of you!
And since Broken launched… that means both Colors of Magic and Blades Reforged went on preorder! Colors of Magic is launching on May 12, and Blades Reforged on September 12 — the anniversary of Lost’s launch :) I wrote a whole blog post about Colors here if you would like more information!
Writing and Edits
It was a very, VERY busy quarter for writing. I finished writing the short stories for Colors, for one. Then I ALSO finished the draft for Blades Reforged! It was a huge effort, but I am so, so happy with how it is turning out. I also started writing some of the exclusive bonus short stories that will be available on Campfire.
This feels like a very short update, but believe me — between Colors and Reforged, I wrote something like 140k words this quarter haha!
But that does bring us to edits! I finished the revisions necessary for the Colors short stories, got them copy edited, and they are now being proofread. Having finished the draft of Reforged, it has been sent for developmental edits — I should get it back some time this month, at which point I’ll be working on revisions for it. I also have the copy edit and proofread scheduled for Reforged!
Ream
In other big news: I launched a Ream subscription!
“What is that?” I hear you ask.
Ream is a subscription platform for authors, kind of like Patreon, but made for delivering books. Basically, I want to be able to spoil my readers, and Ream is a way for me to do that! There are a bunch of bonuses offered, such as access to my backlist, early access to novels before the are published, book boxes, and more. Feel free to check it out!
Other
Lost Blades placed as a finalist for 2023 Indies Today Book Awards! How exciting!
I’ve been working on doing more in-person events. This past quarter I had two — One was an event at the Cumberland Public Library, and the other was an author showcase at Borealis Coffee Company in Bristol. I had a lot of fun at both, and have several more dates set on the new upcoming events page on this site!
The audiobooks are coming along. My current best guess is that Lost will be done by June or July of this year, and Broken by the end of this year.
I also did a lot of art this quarter, finishing both the chibis and the illustrations for Colors of Magic. I’ve gotten my first proof copies in for Colors and I’m super happy with how the illustrations look! I also updated the maps on my website and Campfire to show more locations, which will be relevant both in Colors and Blades Reforged.
And speaking of Campfire, there were changes this quarter to how the packages work — you can now purchase just the extras by themselves! Both Lost and Broken have extras packages up on Campfire and both Colors and Reforged will as well. Lost has 94 bonus elements right now, including several bonus, exclusive short stories, and I’ve been adding to Broken since I finished the draft for Reforged (it currently has 81 extras, but there are more coming). Campfire also came out with a reading app this quarter, so you can access everything from your phone!
Looking Forward
So, what’s next?
Well, Colors releases May 12 — that’s during this upcoming quarter. I will also be working on revisions for Reforged in April and May so it is ready for its September release date :)
And then… well, I guess it’s working on the [Redacted] and the pirates duology, hmm?
Cheers!
